Maria was born in 1967 in Hartlepool and grew up on the North East Coast of England. Following a degree in law, Maria qualified as a barrister and spent over 20 years as a shipping lawyer in the maritime industry.
Maria primarily paints 'en plein air 'in the landscape and from her studio in rural Northumberland .
Much of her work depicts the beautiful rich landscape of the border counties of England and Scotland and the special light found in the coastal region of Berwickshire.
Maria was shortlisted for the New Light Art Prize 2020/2021 and has been selected to show alongside the members of the Royal Society of British Artists at the Mall Galleries, London.
Maria also works in ceramic creating whimsical joyful dioramas depicting a broad menagerie of creatures in 'bonkers' scenarios.
